If someone asked you where the Bible came from, what would you say? Mom and Dad? Church? Amazon?
Perhaps you received your first Bible when you were a kid. A thick leather-bound book with your name stamped in gold on the cover; full of long words and difficult names you couldn’t pronounce. Or maybe it was a gift from a grandparent, youth pastor, or friend who introduced you to Jesus. No matter when you got your first Bible, you were probably told that it was God’s Word, that everything in it was true and you should do your best to live by its teachings. And then you tried to read it…
What seemed like it should be oh-so-simple is . . . well, it’s not simple. And, perhaps that’s because we were taught Bible stories but not the story of the Bible. There’s a big difference.
Do you know how the Bible came to be? Over the next four weeks, we’ll explore the story of how we got the Bible and how it sheds light on and gives us insight into the stories in the Bible.
If you are skeptical about the Bible, this is a fantastic series for you to discover the answers to some of your questions. For sure, if you already follow Christ, it might help you be able to better help others on their journey.

All the best stories begin with great opening lines. Great opening lines capture our attention from the very start. This weekend, as we continue in our series, The Bible for Grown-ups, we’re going to look at another captivating opening line. But there’s one significant difference…this is no fairy tale story. Every word of this story is true. It starts out, “In the beginning...”.
We’re on the second week of a four-week series that unpacks for us the story OF the Bible. Many of us know the stories IN the Bible, but do you know how the Bible actually came to be? Understanding how we got the Bible strengthens our confidence in the Bible. If you’ve ever doubted whether or not you could trust what the Bible says, or struggled with some of the stories it contains, this is a great series for you!
In the English language, certain words can have multiple meanings. It’s part of what makes English such a difficult language to learn! Take for example, the word “old.” It can mean ancient, obsolete, old-fashioned, or stale. It can also mean durable, enduring, or timeless.
When we think about the Old Testament, which meaning is appropriate? Of course it’s ancient, but not obsolete. It’s enduring, but not stale. This Sunday, we’ll be taking a look at the old part of The Bible. Join us as we discover why and how this part of the Bible is called “old” and why it’s valuable and important for those who follow Christ today.
This is week three of a four-week series called The Bible for Grown-Ups. Many of us know the stories IN the Bible, but do you know the story OF the Bible? Where did the Bible come from? Understanding how we got the Bible strengthens our confidence in the Bible. If you’ve ever doubted whether or not you could trust what the Bible says, or struggled with some of the stories it contains, this is a great series for you!
Over the last three messages, we’ve been discovering some of the things we didn’t know that we didn’t know about where we got the Bible. We’ve realized that we know a good bit about what’s in the Bible, but not as much as we thought about how the Bible came to be, or how it fits together, and why that matters.
In this message, we’re wrapping up the series with a look at the New Testament and how it fits together with the Old Testament. Sometimes it can feel like the two parts don’t’ go together very well. I invite you to join us this week as we bridge the gap and see how the two parts of The Bible do fit together. It’s almost like God planned it that way!
