Seems a lot of people want to know where they come from and who they’re related to.

But what if I told you there’s a bigger question, with an even better answer? Bigger than where… better than who… it’s the question of ‘why.’ Why do you even exist? For what purpose were you created?

Every detail was thought out; every element carefully designed; every material purposefully selected. And when every decision had been made and every step had been taken, the dream became reality and the vision was accomplished. It was… perfect.

Until… it wasn’t.

Can you relate to that description? Of the hope, dream, project, or goal that, once realized, feels exhilaratingly perfect. Until something – and there’s always something – spoils it in some way.

God knows that feeling. He can relate. Because we are living in a world that is far, very far, from what He intended.

Have you ever fallen for a scam? Don’t worry… I won’t ask for a show of hands. But honestly… who hasn’t? I mean, the lies and the liars have become so convincing these days. The pitch sounds good, the product, vacation, subscription or whatever -- is an incredible deal, and if you don’t do it now, you will probably miss out on… something. And who wants to be the one missing out?

You listen to the voice -- and before you know it, you’ve said yes. Then, within minutes, maybe hours, or could be days -- you realize you’ve been had. You bought the lie. And the cost is far greater than you ever expected.

Funny thing is... this story isn't new; it's almost as old as… dirt. The first time it happened was in the garden. And we're still falling for it thousands of years later.

The Broken Image [Part 5]

I grew up going to church. I knew what Christians were supposed to ‘look’ like. And I’d seen pictures of Jesus on the wall in Sunday School, so I had an idea of what people thought He looked like too. But it wasn’t until I was a teenager that I met someone who really looked like Jesus. And I was startled, to say the least.

Short in stature… really short – maybe 4’9” on a good day, with a softly rounded, pudgy figure, ruddy complexion, and a nose that was reddish and a little too big. Bright blue eyes sparkled beneath shortly cropped, but smartly styled white hair, her face wrinkled deeply from a lifetime of joy and laughter. When she spoke, her voice carried both delight and wonder and her embrace was quick, warm, and full. She wore love, grace and kindness like a favorite sweater she never took off. Her name was Kay. And the moment I met her, for the first time in my life, I knew what Jesus looked like. And that I wanted to look like Him too.
