Living Inside A Spiritual Reality [Part 1]

It's one of our core beliefs as followers of Jesus. The apostle Paul put it this way in his second letter to the Corinthians... For we walk by faith, not by sight. But apparently, some of our furry friends aren't convinced. You've probably seen the videos... the ones of cats who are terrified of 3-D images that look like holes in the ground? Some of those poor cats react so violently to what they think they see, they don't even realize they aren't falling!

This Sunday, we're beginning a new 6-part series we've called Unseen: What You Don't See is Still There. While we claim to walk by faith and not sight, most of the time we are so fixated on what we think we see, that we don't give much thought to what might be going on that we don't see! But just because we don't see it doesn't mean it isn't there! I invite you to join us as we begin our exploration of what the Bible has to say about the unseen world in which we live.

There's an old hymn that begins with the words, "Open my eyes and let me see, glimpses of truth Thou hast for me... And as we do, my prayer for all of us is that God will open our spiritual eyes to see more of what’s really happening in our world - beyond what we can see with our eyes - and that He will give us a greater understanding of what our role in it should be.

Then, there's the one thing I dislike even more than pumpkin spice anything... horror movies. They are the worst. Mostly because they are poorly written and produced, and filled with atrocious acting. And if you think Hollywood has messed with our understanding of angels... their portrayal of all things 'paranormal' is really off the rails.

This week, we're headed to the dark side - to unpack the realm of the rebellious and demonic. Not for the sake of thrill or fascination, but because it's more than just a Hollywood horror movie meant to give you a scare. Our enemies (yes, plural) are very real. And the only way to effectively push back the darkness is to be prepared for it.
